بصيرة / Basira Terms of Use

Terms of Use

Basira is a free geospatial analysis tool. These terms are deliberately short — written to be read, not to hide anything. By using the site or the API, you agree to them.

01What Basira is

Basira is a geospatial analysis platform built on open data: draw an area on the map and get analyses of buildings, roads, terrain, population, and climate. The service is free, with no accounts and no fees, and is provided as-is.

02No warranty

The service and its results are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind — no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Do not rely on Basira's output alone for decisions affecting safety, property, or legal obligations (official land surveying, structural planning, emergency response) without verification against authoritative sources.

03Data accuracy

Our analyses are only as good as their sources:

Treat every number as an indicative estimate, not a survey-grade measurement.

04Source licenses & attribution

We build on open data, and each source has its own license:

SourceUsed forLicense
OpenStreetMap (via Overpass)Buildings, roads, featuresODbL
Copernicus DEM 30mElevation & slopeESA/Copernicus
NASA GIBSSatellite imagery layersNASA (open)
WorldPopPopulation estimatesCC-BY 4.0
Open-Meteo (ERA5)Climate dataCC-BY 4.0

Important: if you export OSM-derived data from Basira (e.g. building or road GeoJSON), you are bound by the ODbL: credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors", and any derived database you distribute must remain under ODbL. WorldPop data requires CC-BY attribution when republished.

05Fair use of the API

The API is free and open to everyone within shared rate limits (currently on the order of 60 requests per minute and 10 analyses per minute per address; subject to change). If you exceed them you will receive a 429 response with a Retry-After header — honour it. If you need more capacity for a serious project, contact us rather than working around the limits.

06Acceptable use

Do not use Basira for:

We reserve the right to block any address that harms the service or the open-data providers we depend on.

07Service continuity

Basira is a small project that depends on free upstream data services. Features may change, individual layers may be retired, and the service may pause or shut down — temporarily or permanently, without prior notice. Do not build critical systems on it without a fallback plan.

08The spirit of these terms

We are not here to corner you with legalese. The rule is simple: use the tool in good faith, attribute the data to its makers, and go easy on the service — and we, in turn, will keep it free and open for as long as we can. We may update these terms occasionally; material changes will appear in the changelog. Privacy details live in the privacy policy, and how the numbers are computed in the methodology.
